New basement wall

The new basement wall was poured this week.  After the metal forms were removed Georgetown Waterproofing came and applied a thick liquid rubber material to the cement well to keep our basement dry.

We installed the new window well pieces around the egress window.  It features a built in ladder that can be used to climb out - in case of a fire.   The waterproofing guys came back and sealed up around the window well.  I called Saturday morning after we installed the window well and they were there right after lunch.  Great service.

Here are some pictures of the new basement wall.

Foundation

Yesterday "The Foundation Company" had their workers set the forms for the new basement walls.  Today the cement truck came and filled the forms.   Tomorrow or the next day the workers will come back to remove the forms and we will see the new walls for the first time!    The wall will need to cure for about two weeks before we are able to back fill the hole.

Foundation prep

This week the concrete workers were able to install the concrete footings.  The new poured basement walls will sit on top  of the footings.   I was amazed at how quickly the forms were setup and how quickly the concrete was poured.  Next week they will set and fill the forms for the new walls.

Excavating

Yesterday the excavators came and dug the hole for the addition.  We will have a full basement under the addition. This will give the kids a lot of room for their toys!    Here some pictures of the work in progress.

Background

We purchased our home in 2003, two years after we got married.  Now 11 years and 3 kids later we are running out of room!

As the kids and all of their toys began multiplying we began dreaming about adding onto our home.  About a year and a half ago we began pursuing this dream.  We enlisted the help of a great architect to design an addition.

Below are pictures of our home currently and a sketch of how it will look once the addition is complete.
